TECHNE. «(A)modal Study I», installation by Hugo Esquinca
During three days in December, it will be possible to experience a new sound installation by the artist Hugo Esquinca at the ROSIZO—NCCA. This generative site-specific work stems from an in-depth study of the architecture of the building and of way in which sound spreads within it. It plays with the perceptive sensibility of the viewer who becomes an active element of the work.
«The installation is a study of resonant modes, volume of the room and distance as variables among variables. Through the amplification of indeterminate variations of the resonant frequencies of the room, a modal intervention of physical space by means of generative sonorous permutations in various degrees of speeds and slownesses becomes expressively manifest».
Hugo Esquinca is a Mexican-born, Berlin-based sound researcher and theorist, whose works investigate the diverse spatio-temporal relations deriving from interactions between technology and the sonorous, expanding within and beyond audibility. His works have been presented in diverse context and venues around the globe, such as Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Forum Statdpark Graz, Goethe-Institute Athens, CMMAS Center for Music and the Sonic Arts Mexico, Loop Festival Berlin, Mira Contemporary Art Museum Siberia and many more. One of his latest works was the site-specific composition at Berghain for CTM Festival, in which he investigated the sound system and room resonance capabilities of world’s famous techno venue, pushing the speakers to the extreme levels of amplification.
Supported by Goethe-Institute Moscow. A project by TECHNE Platform, a division of ROSIZO—NCCA dedicated to innovative and technological practices in contemporary art.
